New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a
full-time 8/hr. per day Monday-Friday Oral Adherence Nurse. The
ideal candidate will have prior nursing in medical oncology, be ONS
Chemo Bio Certified, be comfortable in providing triage,
evaluations, and education to patient verbally over the phone. This
position is eligible for up to a sign-on bonus paid after 90
days of employment.
The Oral Adherence RN will collaborate with physician lead teams
to monitor patients through their oral chemotherapy treatment plan.
The RN will use phone communication and triage skills to obtain,
document, and evaluate information from patients to ensure
compliance within treatment guidelines. They will communicate issues
that arise to appropriate members of the treatment team.

Job Duties:

· Point of contact for patients,
families, pharmacy, nursing, and providers for all oral chemotherapy.

Coordinate appointments with providers to ensure timely
delivery of diagnostic and treatment services and ensure that
appropriate medical records are available for these
appointments. Facilitates linkages to follow-up services.

Receives patient telephone calls and intervenes appropriately
for that patient’s specific oral chemotherapy needs in a timely
manner. Alert physician as needed to patient needs that require
physician intervention.

Performs adherence assessments as needed primarily by
telephone or infrequently in person, to ensure compliance with
treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain
clinical situations.

Provides education to the patient and their families on oral chemotherapy.
- Works closely with the pharmacy and financial advocates to
facilitate financial support for oral chemotherapy treatments.
- Collaborates with the pharmacy to review patient medication
regimens for clinical effectiveness, dosing, contraindications,
side effects, potential drug-drug and drug-food interactions,
and therapeutic outcomes as required. Communicates findings with
the pharmacy and prescribers.
- Maintains patient care standards and assures that patient care
functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are
completed safely and effectively.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences,
in-services and continuing education programs, national and
regional professional organizations, and community sponsored
programs specific to oncology and hematology.
- Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice
and provides recommendations on practice clinical policies and
processes to practice directors.
- Designs, develops, and participates in programs to evaluate
the quality and/or impact of oral adherence management. Examples
include cost savings initiatives, policy revision, and order
set/protocol changes.
- Works closely with the Research Department to ensure
compliance.
- Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope
of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
- This position will participate in the Nurse Navigator
Urgent Care Clinic Rotation.
- Demonstrates respect for life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
- Other duties as assigned and must be willing to travel and
work at satellite offices when the need arises.
Weekends: Periodic: this position participates with
other RNs in the weekend urgent care coverage 4-5 times per year.
