Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to support the continued growth of the largest physician-owned medical oncology practice in Northern New England. If your experience melds deep financial expertise with strategic acumen and an aptitude for change management and growth, we would like to hear from you.

We are seeking candidates with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deftly present detailed information, influence, and negotiate. The CFO is an integral member of the team charged with creating and executing the long-term strategic and annual operating goals of the practice. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and oversight to ensure that the proper financial processes are in place to achieve these goals. They will also bring their data analytics and strategic thinking expertise to the senior leadership table.

As a key advisor to the CEO, the CFO must be comfortable communicating complex financial information in an accessible way for all audiences, presenting metrics regularly to the practice’s executive leaders and board of directors. They will be a results-oriented decisionmaker who can identify risks, opportunities, and contingencies while managing a variety of project and goal timelines simultaneously.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and experience leading the financial functions of a complex medical business, with a preference for direct experience in medical practice management and oncology practice management. They will have superior accrual-based accounting skills, corporate and tax planning expertise, financial planning and budgeting background, and be adept at business analytics/financing.

The CFO will also have a customer-focused style and be comfortable building relationships internally and externally by gaining buy-in and using positive influence. The role includes managing and supporting professional development for department directors of finance, billing, financial advocacy and prior authorization, and information and technology.  

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university and 10+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A graduate (MBA) degree and Certified Public Accountant designation are highly desired.
  • Ten+ years of financial professional experience, with at least five years at the senior level in healthcare.  Direct experience in medical practice management and oncology practice management preferred.
  • Strategic understanding of information management systems and experience in integrating financial report systems to support business objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership attributes (strategic visionary, inspirational mentor, entrepreneurial steward).
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles and experience with industry reporting and regulations.
  • Proven organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to persuade, influence, and negotiate.
  • Strong analytical abilities to analyze data and make high-level decisions.
  • Create collaboration and collegial relationships with senior leaders and outside partners & vendors.
  • Proactive initiative to identify issues and recommend solutions. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • High ethical standards. Intense desire to succeed. Ability to make tough decisions. Change agent.
