Job Description:

NECS is currently seeking a Per-Diem Infusion Oncology RN to join our fast-paced practice.  We have opportunities in our clinics in Topsham, Scarborough, and Kennebunk Maine, as well as our clinic in Portsmouth NH.  The successful Per-Diem Infusion RN may be called into service  to cover staffing gaps as needed.  The Infusion Oncology RN is a critical part of our fast-paced outpatient Treatment Room, dedicated to direct patient care for our Hematology/Oncology patients requiring infusion services. The RN will administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy drugs as well as non-oncology infusions in accordance with established guidelines. They will work within a collaborative team including Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Nurse Navigators in carrying out the day to day aspects of clinical operations.

Job Duties:

  • Delivers chemotherapy in accordance with prescribed protocols and NECS guidelines.
  • Performs injections and IV therapy (IV starts, PICC line/Port Access) utilizing accepted techniques.
  • Calculates/verifies AUC dosing, CrCl, IVIG dosing.
  • Operate infusion pumps.
  • Perform therapeutic phlebotomy in accordance with physician orders.
  • Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
  • Assist Physicians; conduct patient assessments.
  • Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol.
  • Follows established oncology protocols to maintain clean and safe working environments. Safeguards self and others against the hazards of toxic drugs dispose of hazardous waste according to the approved protocol.
  • Evaluates lab data in conjunction with the provider to provide appropriate care to the patient.
  • Provides patient education at chairside regarding therapies patient is receiving.
  • Evaluates side effects and toxicities of therapy and provide for their management.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
  • Provides recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.
  • Works collaboratively with the Clinical Research, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Business Office, HR, and Genetic departments.
  • Coordinates patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
  • Helps to ensure that resources, supplies, and materials are available.
    • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
    • Demonstrates respect for life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
    • Ensures the smooth execution of all practice nursing policies, procedures, and systems.
    • Other duties as assigned. Must be willing to travel and work at satellite offices if the need arises.

Monday-Friday work-week, no nights. 
Weekends: Periodic: this position will be asked to cover weekend infusion room clinic hours 9-1pm on Saturdays and Sundays. 4-5 time per year. 
Travel:  Ideal candidate will be willing to work a multiple locations

Experience and Skills:

  • Licensed Nurse within the State of Maine required.
  • Two Plus years of Infusion is REQUIRED.
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification is required, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing strongly preferred.
  • Two years plus of nursing professional experience required.
  • Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and staff
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
