Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a full time Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance Team. Reporting to the Director of Finance the Staff Accountant will assist in financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis. The Staff Accountant will work closely with other team members to assist with month-end process, budget reporting, audits, and compliance. The successful candidate will have two-year experience performing accounting functions in a healthcare environment.

This position is a hybrid role, primarily remote with the ability to travel onsite. Candidate should live within driving distance from Scarborough, ME.

NECS is a private medical practice composed of 15 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from 5 different locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Job Duties

  • Review general ledger accounts and prepare adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepares and maintains supporting schedules for audit and tax compliance.
  • Assists with preparing annual budget and related variance analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and department budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Review payroll process for accuracy including multi-state complexities and retirement plan calculation compliance.
  • Reconciles miscellaneous accounts receivable billing and maintains in accordance with contractual agreements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Experience and Skills:

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience in accounting and healthcare
  • Strong mathematic and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other computer applications
  • Prior experience with applicant tracking systems.
  • Experience using behavioral-based selection tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis to all NECS locations.

This position is full-time (40 hrs.) and includes a competitive compensation and benefits package, professional development, generous PTO, and an annual bonus program.
