Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is growing, and we are seeking a full-time IT Specialist to join our team! The ideal individual should have an excellent ability to solve problems using their in-depth understanding of network technologies and infrastructure. The top candidate will also be a strong team player, communicator, and collaborator. Our IT Specialists provide direct support to users of all levels, across the practice, ensuring technology resources run smoothly for day-to-day operations.

  NECS is a community-based private medical practice composed of 13 oncologists and hematologists serving New England from 5 different locations in Maine (Kennebunk, Scarborough, & Topsham) and New Hampshire (Portsmouth).   Job Duties:

  • Providing technical support to co-workers, with workstation maintenance and problem resolution, through helpdesk, telephone requests, email requests, and walk-ups.
  • Conduct IT orientation for new employees.
  • Support for the many outside entities that access our systems
  • User account creation\management for company systems except those managed by functional areas such as HR, Finance, etc.
  • Ensuring the network operates securely.
  • Collaborating with members of the IT team and management, to determining company needs and coordinating the development and maintenance of network infrastructures.
  • Works with all related software vendors, hardware vendors, ISP vendors, and I.T. departments to support: Project implementation, plan maintenance, plan upgrades, implement changes, customize processes, troubleshooting issues.
  • Performing necessary upgrades to the network infrastructure as needed.
  • Installing network hardware components, cables, and switches.
  • Ensuring secure and stable server connectivity and testing network protocols.
  • Creating internet domains and optimizing intranet performance.
  • Testing data exchange and communication between computers, routers, modems, and servers.
  • Installing, updating, and configuring end-user networking accessories.
  • Monitoring server capacity and performance to keep up with demand in online traffic.
  • Running diagnostic tests and performing repairs, as well as developing backup, archiving, and data retrieval procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with the network.
  • Preparing user manuals and providing remote or onsite technical support.
  • Enhancing network security, as well as documenting network processes and cabling layouts.
  • Keeping informed of developments in network technologies and infrastructure.
  • Configuring network software.
  • Identifying and eliminating bottlenecks to ensure long-term network efficiency.

  Weekend Work: may require periodic emergency response to critical outages , or pre-scheduled afterhours/ weekend project work.  No set on call schedule.

  Travel:  Travel between NECS sites on an as needed basis is required, with mileage reimbursement available.



Experience and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates degree computer science or technical discipline preferred
  • 5+ years experience in information technology support
  • Experience in the Healthcare field is a plus
