Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a full time Infusion Oncology RN to join our Scarborough location. The Infusion Oncology RN is a critical part of our fast paced outpatient Treatment Room, dedicated to direct patient care for our Hematology/Oncology patients requiring infusion services. The successful candidate will administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy drugs as well as non-oncology infusions in accordance with established guidelines. They will work within a collaborative team including Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Nurse Navigators in carrying out the day to day aspects of clinical operations.

Job Duties:

  • Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
  • Delivers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and non-oncology infusions in accordance with prescribed protocols and NECS guidelines.
  • Performs injections and IV therapy (IV starts, PICC line/Port Access) utilizing aseptic technique.
  • Calculate/verify AUC dosing, CrCl, IVIG dosing.
  • Operate infusion pumps.Perform therapeutic phlebotomy in accordance with physician orders.
  • Assist Physicians; conduct patient assessments.
  • Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
  • Initiate and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol.
  • Follows established oncology protocols to maintain clean and safe working environments. Safeguards self and others against the hazards of toxic drugs, disposes of hazardous waste according to approved protocol.
  • Evaluate lab data in conjunction with the provider to provide appropriate care to the patient.
  • Provide patient education at chair-side regarding therapies patient is receiving.
  • Evaluate side effects and toxicities of therapy and provide for their management.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees and vendors.
  • Provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Research, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Business Office, HR, and Genetic departments.
  • Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
  • Help ensure that resources, supplies, and materials are available
    • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
    • Demonstrates respect for life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
    • Ensures the smooth execution of all practice nursing policies, procedures and systems.
    • Other duties as assigned. Must be willing to travel and work at satellite offices when the need arises.

Experience and Skills:

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
  • Associated RN - Must be enrolled in a BSN program within 6 months of hire and complete your degree within 4 years of hire. (Tuition reimbursement available per company policy)
  • Licensed Nurse within State of Maine required.
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required within 6 (six) months of hire
  • Two years plus nursing professional experience required
  • Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
  • OCN required within 1 (one) year of hire or when eligible based on ONCC criteria
  • ONS required within 2 (two) years of hire or when eligible based on ONS criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and staff
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
