Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Finance for our multi-site oncology/hematology practice. 

The Director of Finance will plan, organize and directs all aspects of the finance department including developing of policies for finance, accounting, budgeting, audits, payroll benefits, insurance and claims processing, ensuring that appropriate financial controls are in place.  They will actively participate and advise the practice on business plans, new business opportunities, and contracting.  They will directly oversee the Finance and Business Offices functions for the practice.

This position is based out of NECS’s business office located in Scarborough, Maine.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensures the smooth execution of all practice financial and accounting policies, procedures and systems.
  • Directs and presents financial reports and forecasts to the board of directors, senior leaders, regulatory agencies and others.
  • Develops the practice’s cash flow, liquidity and other financial policies for the organization.
  • Oversees the annual budgeting process for the practice, including operating and capital budgets.
  • Represents the practice with regulatory agencies. Coordinates and collaborates with external auditors in the planning and preparation of year-end financial reports and statements.
  • Collaborates with external and internal partners in the development of strategic objectives and executes the practice’s short and long term financial goals.
  • Provides meaningful analysis and recommendations on all practice financial policies and processes
  • Supervises the Accounting and Payroll Specialists, Financial Advocate, Compliance and Business Office Managers, ensuring functional objectives are met. 
  • Develops company guidelines and provides financial analysis and guidance for effective contract negotiation.

Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
  • Graduate (MBA) degree and Certified Public Accountant designation highly desired.
  • Ten + years of financial professional experience. At least five years at the senior level in a healthcare practice. Oncology experience highly preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership attributes including the ability to set direction, build organizational capability, develop collaborative relationships and operate with a high degree of integrity and accountability.
  • Proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Has previous experience managing and motivating staff.
  • Has a strategic understanding of information management systems and experience with integrating financial report systems to support business objectives.
