Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is growing! NECS is currently seeking a full-time 4-10hr days Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant to work in our Kennebunk, ME and Portsmouth, NH Oncology Clinics. The successful APP candidate will have a strong oncology/hematology background and work closely with physicians treating a broad spectrum of patients in a fast-paced outpatient environment. The position will diagnose, treat and manage patients in a team care model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data, diagnose and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient’s hematologic/oncologic diagnosis, perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician, prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Determine the eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
  • Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
  • Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psycho-social response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.

Travel:  Split time between Kennebunk ME, and Portsmouth NH

Experience and Skills:

  • State of Maine Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant license required or the ability to obtain.
  • State of New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant license required or the ability to obtain
  • Three (3) years’ experience in Oncology and Hematology.
  • Palliative Care experience preferred
  • Master’s Degree Required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.
