Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a full time Medical Assistant to join our Topsham location. The Medical Assistant will give top line care to a wide variety of patients dealing with cancer and blood disorders.  Duties include, rooming patients, taking patient vitals/height/weight, completing review of symptoms forms, reviewing medications, assisting in the infusion center, phlebotomy and general clerical duties to assist in day to day operations of the office.

Job Duties:

  • Facilitate office visits by greeting and rooming patients and preparing for the physician/APP visit- i.e. ht, we, vital signs, review of symptoms, review of medication lists, histories.
  • Draw blood/phlebotomy as needed
  • Intramuscular and Subcutaneous injections on various body sites
  • Assist physicians with procedures as needed
  • EKGs
  • Assist in the completion of FMLA and Disability paperwork
  • Enter orders into the EMR and related systems for medication, laboratory and radiology services
  • Stock, inventory and order medical supplies as needed.

Monday-Friday work week, no nights.
Weekends: Periodic: this position participates with other medical assistants in the weekend urgent care coverage 4-5 times per year. 
Travel: Rare

Experience and Skills:

  • Must have a degree or certificate in Medical Assisting from an accredited school of Medical Assistance. 2 year Associates degree in a Credentialed Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
  • You must have (1) of the following credentials or be eligible to obtain (1) of the following credentials, based upon the credentialing organization's eligibility requirements within 90 days of hire:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)- from AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistants
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT, American Medical Technologists
    • Certified Clinical medical Assistant (CCMA) from NHA, National Healthcareer Association
    • National Certified medical Assistant (NCMA) from NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from ARMA, American Registry of Medical Assistants
    • National Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from the NAHP, National Association for Health Professional.
  • Previous experience with insurance prior-authorization, medication refills, and preparing charts preferred.
  • Experience with and ability to understand patient medical records, physician's orders and medical orders.
  • Understand an conduct yourself in accordance with accepted clinical standards and the ability to maintain strict HIPAA compliance
  • High level of computer skills and experience with electronic medical records (EMR's) is required
  • Ability to communicate with patients, family members, co-workers and providers in an effective and compassionate way.
  • Must have high level oral and written communication skills, typing skills are required.
