Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a Certified Genetic Counselor to provide family history assessment and cancer genetic counseling for our patients with cancer, a family history of cancer, and at risk for cancer.   The Genetic Counselor is a vital part of the overall treatment of NECS’s patients. They are responsible for providing counseling, education, and support to an outpatient population working collaboratively with providers to give the best possible care to our patients.  

NECS is a growing private medical practice composed of 15 oncologists and hematologists serving the state and region from 4 different locations in Maine.  NECS is committed to achieving the best outcome and providing unmatched support in all areas for every patient.  Nationally recognized as 1 of 12 Oncology Medical Homes in the nation and the first private practice to become a member of the Dana Farber Cancer Care Collaborative.  NECS brings together top clinicians, researchers, and dedicated medical professionals, clinical and non-clinical to create the best possible experience for our patients.  

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited Genetic Counseling program, including clinical experience from an accredited genetics counseling training program required.
  • 1-5 years experience in a genetic counseling role with oncology counseling experience preferred.
  • American Board of Medical Genetics (ABGC) certified or able to obtain certification within one year of hire date.
  • Ability to triage, and multi-task multiple priorities.
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Flexiblity to travel to all 4 NECS sites
  • Maintaining regulatory and compliance issues to adhere to all related healthcare laws and regulations.
