Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists is looking for a full-time, professional, empathetic and experienced Collections Specialist in our Scarborough, Maine location. The Collections Specialist is responsible for performing all collection efforts for patient accounts, answering account questions, researching account issues, setting up payment plans, collecting unpaid debt, and processing payments and refunds in a timely and professional manner. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent negotiating skills while showing empathy in addressing patient needs to insure a positive outcome. Collections experience is required with experience in medical collections preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Answer incoming patient billing inquiries about payment processing, insurance payments and statements.
  • Contact patients on balances due and resolve any patient issues
  • Set up and monitor payment plans
  • Follow up on delinquent payments
  • Process patient accounts for pre-collection
  • Communicate with collection agency on NECS accounts.
  • Process Bi-Weekly patient statements
  • Process patent refunds in accordance with NECS Refund policy weekly
  • Work with other members of the NECS Billing team as required

Experience and Skills:

Required Skills and Experience:

    • Must have High School Diploma/GED
    • 2 years minimum experience in Collections is required. 
    • Experience in Medical Collections is preferred. 
    • Graduate from an accredited Medical Billing and Coding Certification program preferred.
    • Must have ICD-10, CPT Coding and HCPCS knowledge
    • Must have working knowledge of EOB’s, EFT’s and ERA’s
    • Excel and Word experience
    • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervisor.
