Job Description:

New England Cancer Specialists is currently seeking a 40 hour 4 day a week Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant to join our Scarborough office.  The successful Advanced Practice Provider candidate will work closely with physicians treating both oncology and hematology patients in a fast-paced environment.  The position will diagnose, treat and manage patients.  Responsibilities will include performing procedures and providing care in both, in and outpatient settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the physical and psycho-social status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. 
  • Elicit medical history of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list. 
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data, diagnose and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient’s hematologic/oncologic diagnosis, perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician, prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations. 
  • Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings. 
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement. 
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
  • Educates patients and families about the disease process and treatment.  Provides information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.

 

Experience and Skills:

  • State of Maine Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant license required.
  • Three (3) years experience as NP/PA with Oncology and Hematology experience preferred.
  • Master’s Degree Required.
  • Needs to be able to obtain privileges with our hospital partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.
